Saint Jude Helps a Single Mother

By Mary Anne Miller

The year was 1999 and St. Jude interceded for me not once but twice. I had recently gone through a divorce that blind-sided me after a fifteen-year marriage with three children. Like it or not I became a single mom. I had been in the workforce before, but the role of provider was new to me. My ex did support the children; however, there was still a lot on my shoulders.

I decided to have some work done on our home by adding onto the two existing bedrooms above the garage to give my children more space, getting new windows in the front of the home, adding a cold air return, and adding a floor and pull down staircase in the attic. The home improvement projects were quite a bit for me to tackle on my own; however, I thought it was the right thing to do. My job was rock solid so I went forward with all the home improvement projects. I used all my savings but thought it was worth it. Towards the end of the project one of the bids ended up $6,000.00 more than the initial bid. I didn’t have that much cash on-hand, so I was really beside myself and thinking that maybe I wasn’t as responsible as I should have been.

I began a  novena and prayers to St. Jude, making daily visits to a local church during my lunch break. Towards the end of the novena, a savings investment I had made matured with the exact amount I needed. Thanks to St. Jude for his intercession!

A few months later I found out my “rock solid” job was going to be eliminated along with every other job in my department. By the grace of God, our boss shared the information with all of us to give us a “heads up” and some time to find another job. My search began immediately. I began another novena and prayers to St. Jude, again making daily visits to a local church during my lunch break.

I finished second the novena and had peace that God would take care of me and my children. I was doing my part and I knew that God was going to do His. At work, the day came when each of us was brought into a room to get our walking papers. I went to unemployment on Tuesday to sign up for assistance. It was very hard. I learned how much I had associated a job title with my identity. It was very humbling.

I received a call on Wednesday of the same week to come in for an interview. I got a job offer that Friday to start work the very next week! I was only without work for a few days. Praise God! I know St. Jude’s intercession worked on my behalf.

God is so good to give us powerful saints that we can count on for assistance. St. Jude, the patron saint of hopeless cases, came through for me and I will be forever indebted to him.
